LUMKILE MONDI: Exit to the left: Ramaphosa signs bantustans back to life in Khoi-San leadership bill
President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill (TKLB) in what has been interpreted by some as a betrayal of the rural poor. In fact, it represents the continued strengthening of the ANC’s patronage network through the tribal authorities, just as the National Party did with the Bantu administration boards in the townships and bantustans of the apartheid era.
I noted in my last column that the ANC government has an insatiable appetite for political power, and this has been confirmed by the presentation to us in Johannesburg of a tainted ANC candidate, Geoff Makhubo, as mayoral candidate...
