Where are the big names endorsing the Mzansi league?
Two characters have been conspicuous by their absence through the course of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) — the most obvious being its leader. Because there isn’t one. South Africans definitely do not deserve an Indian Premier League (IPL) founder-figure inflicted on them, but there is definitely a vacuum at the top. When Lalit Modi founded the IPL he literally assigned a cameraman to follow his every step. Directors were given non-negotiable targets for "Modi shots" during matches and he was inevitably pictured with a dignitary or somebody wealthy or beautiful, usually five times per game. Such megalomaniacal narcissism must have been nauseating to some viewers and it was amusing to others, but to the majority it was immensely influential and conveyed a message of power and belief to hundreds of millions of people. Many say his approach was critical to the IPL establishing itself. Hopefully there is no need for such crass brashness in the MSL, but most sports fans are followers rat...
