Fernando LaFuente, a Spanish national, had played for Ballybrack FC in the Leinster Senior League, an amateur club, after moving to Ireland to work for a software company. He turned out for the south Dublin club, but stopped when he relocated to his company’s Galway office. Ballybrack did not want to play a match against a stronger team, possibly due to not having enough players to make up a team. So, they told the league LaFuente had died. They needed time to mourn.
