The Daily Mirror published a look ahead at the Tour de France earlier this week and made a mess of it. They wrote that Mikel Landa would be riding for a team called Mikel Landa, had the retired Alberto Contador as one to watch and reckoned this could be the year that Mark Cavendish finally gets on to the podium at the Champs-Elysees with a chance of winning the yellow jersey. The tabloid has since edited the preview, having been alerted by the cackles of cycling fans the world over. These things happen when newsrooms are hacked to bits and writing becomes a copy-paste-and-hope exercise. We really shouldn’t laugh when these things happen. It’s sad rather than funny. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will indeed be hoping that Cavendish will pull on the yellow jersey at the Tour de France. There are eight flat stages, two of them on the opening two days.
