ISMAIL LAGARDIEN: Julius Malema’s rant spurs breakdown of ethics
The danger of Malema’s ‘no white man’ rant is a likely crowding-out of ethical behaviour
EFF leader Julius Malema has been accused by AfriForum of fraud. In his first response – an echo of retired judge Nkola Motata’s alleged statement, "No boer is going to undermine me" — Malema was equally adamant that "no white man" would decide his "destiny". The danger of this statement is that it undermines any future attempts to successfully prosecute fraud and is a likely crowding-out of ethical behaviour. By accident or design, by lowering the risk of prosecution with his declaration, Malema is now paving the path that has been cleared for rendering unethical conduct and corruption permissible. For instance, there would be little preventing a white, black, coloured or Indian person from declaring that they would not be prosecuted by a person of another race either.
