Cricket Australia (CA) officials spent most of Monday attempting to get to the bottom of the ball-tampering saga and vexing about suitable punishments for the perpetrators, the "leadership group" to which captain Steve Smith referred in his media confessional with the ham-fisted Cameron Bancroft. There have been some hysterical and absurd calls from within Australia for Smith to be given a life ban, and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said he should be sacked forever as captain, which illustrates just how seriously the country is treating the scandal.
