KEVIN McCALLUM: Impey and Dlamini find self-belief in Tour Down Under
There comes a moment in riders’ careers when they begin to believe. When the head catches up with the heart and the body, and then goes past them, dragging them along for the ride. Louis Meintjes had his at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2015, when he finished 11th. "To be in the front group with those guys was a big moment for me. They were the best riders in the world and it was a hard race," said Meintjes. Chris Froome had his at the 2011 Vuelta a Espana, when he finished second — at the time the best finish by a Briton in a Grand Tour. Rob Hunter never lacked for belief, but two stage wins in the Vuelta at the beginning of his career would have shown him what he knew he was capable of. For Nicholas Dlamini and Daryl Impey, the moment may have been on Sunday at the Tour Down Under.
