I haven’t been able to stop thinking over the weekend about the little incident that happened to me outside the house of my boss, colleague and friend for many years Peter Bruce. A handful of Black First Land First (BLF) protesters had gathered outside Bruce’s house to protest. It was pretty obviously a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation, and I went really to visit Bruce to show some solidarity and just find out how he was holding up. The protest was retaliation to a piece Bruce had published in the Business Day, which mentioned the BLF and their links to the Gupta family just in passing. The main topic was the Guptas and their cynical use of racial divisions to divert attention from the wholesale plundering of the state resources.The group had defaced Bruce’s garage door, painting on it the words “Land or Death” and on my way to Bruce’s house I took my phone out to take a picture.
