French-based Springbok veterans Bismarck du Plessis and Francois Steyn will add stomach to what has been a soft Springbok underbelly for the three-Test series against France. Toulon-based Duane Vermeulen is also expected to be among the foreign-based South African players identified to strengthen the collective national challenge of those in SA who play Super Rugby. The cliché that a week is a long time in sport best summarises the contrast of emotions when it comes to South African rugby. Just a week ago, I was raving about the quality of the Lions’ win against the Stormers and a week before that we had the Stormers upstaging the Chiefs in Cape Town and before that the wonderful spectacle produced between the Lions and Sharks in Johannesburg. The good, I wrote, outweighed the bad.
