The papers released in advance of the ANC’s advisory policy conference in June are a clear rejection of Zuma’s ‘radical’ proposals
Last Sunday, the ANC released nine "discussion documents" in advance of the party’s advisory policy conference that begins in late June. The papers provide strong evidence that President Jacob Zuma’s power is ebbing away. National Executive Committee (NEC) sub-committees prepared the documents. The cadres involved in drafting the documents include senior figures who chair prestigious policy committees, among them Enoch Godongwana (economic transformation), Fikile Mbalula (organisational renewal), Naledi Pandor (education and health), Lindiwe Sisulu (social transformation), and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula (peace and stability). Nathi Mthethwa chairs the political education committee, nominally responsible for the over-arching "strategy and tactics" document that sets out the longer term objectives of the ruling party.
