It was quite a week for South African cricket. A number of significant decisions were taken, and we are not talking about AB de Villiers’ laudably attacking instinct to keep the extra fielder in the circle during the middle overs against Sri Lanka at St George’s Park. Painfully dull as it can be to talk boardroom at a time when the team is playing such compelling cricket, sometimes it cannot be helped because the men and women who made the executive decisions affect the cricketing ones. Following the Cricket SA board meeting on Saturday, it was announced the existing franchise system of six teams would be retained.
