It was a pleasure to host the editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal, Gerard Baker, at a Business Day Online event last week. Of course, we wanted to know about little else than what was going to happen in the US under President Donald Trump. The event was attended by a group of Business Day readers and we held it partly because we had struck a deal with the Wall Street Journal to host the entire newspaper on our website. It was a grand opportunity to get a bit of the insider’s view on what is happening in the US and what might unfold. The Wall Street Journal was bought by the Rupert Murdoch empire a decade ago and despite dire warnings that it would lose its way under the ownership of such a mutable and populist magnate, as a long-time reader, I personally think it’s never been better — and Baker, of course, takes a lot of credit for that.
