The Cape Party shows vandalism and hypocrisy are paths to ruin, writes Gareth van Onselen
Welcome to Tweet of the Week. Every Friday I will use this column to hand out an award to one person who has tweeted something of significance. There are no strict rules, only that the tweet in question must offer an important insight, define a debate (notorious or otherwise) or mark an occasion. This week the Tweet of the Week goes to @capeparty for:Profile: The Cape Party is a local political party registered in the Western Cape. Its website defines its raison d’être as: "Through legal and peaceful means we will strive towards a democratic referendum in which we, the people of the Cape may decide our own future and destiny as an independent state…. The Cape Republic." It has 130 followers on Twitter. Citation: The Cape Party is a recalcitrant triviality. It comprises two or three people and a typewriter and has for some years now operated under the delusion there exists an electoral market for its particular brand of delusional politics.
