It is almost December. Instead of easing into the festive season, SA continues to be haunted by the events that scorched our collective psyche last December. But wait, December has been a tumultuous month ever since President Jacob Zuma’s second term began in 2012. The ANC had an opportunity then to rid us of a president who has violated the Constitution, destroyed the alliance and the ANC Youth League, undermined the country’s criminal justice system and flirted with SA’s economic destruction. Instead, the ANC returned him to the helm of the governing party and proceeded to aggressively pursue those who had opposed him. Much was made of the ascent of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to the top six of the ANC in December 2012, but little has come of his tenure — many still wait with bated breath for him to "stand up".
