President Jacob Zuma is a great one for identifying opportunity in times of crisis. Hence his letter to the head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Shaun Abrahams, asking for reasons why he should not be suspended. It is also the reason the ANC national working committee will meet party veterans who are worried about the directionless state of the governing party, instead of meeting Zuma by himself, which they expressly requested. He performed a similar feat when a notification on February 3 announced the president had "proposed a solution" on the Nkandla matter — due to be heard in the Constitutional Court less than a week later.
