Although my clever black friends argue — well — that what is unravelling in the courts, institutions and state-owned enterprises can be traced back to Polokwane 2007, the success of the wounded in trumping the Mbeki quarter of the ANC is too sweeping to explain why people such as Des van Rooyen, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Faith Muthambi, Mosebenzi Zwane, Dudu Myeni, Collen Maine, Kebby Maphatsoe, Brian Molefe, Matshela Koko and their supporters are being hammered, and why the president is being humiliated. Concealed among the litany of explanations as to what has happened is an incident, that has, like so many others, become lost amid controversy. It occurred in 2014 in Moscow, Russia, when Jacob Zuma consulted doctors on the state of his deteriorating health, ostensibly the consequence of an assassination attempt by one of his wives.
