How does this all end? The war at the centre of our body politic has never been more tangible and the outcome never more uncertain. Will President Jacob Zuma declare a state of emergency, using the university violence as a pretext and give himself emergency powers? Will he reshuffle his Cabinet and fire Pravin Gordhan, using the charges against him as a pretext, and install at the Treasury a minister who will not stand in the way of the looting of state resources?
