MUSICAL maestro Jack White has fulfilled his mission of playing a vinyl record in space. The stratosphere, to be precise.And no, The Insider doesn’t really understand why he felt the need either. But we do know, because there’s video footage available on the interwebs to prove it, that on July 30 A Glorious Dawn by composer John Boswell, mixed with audio of American scientist Carl Sagan describing the universe, was played 28,000m above Earth on a "space-proof" turntable engineered to operate in the prevailing conditions.The record played for about 80 minutes until the high-altitude balloon that carried the contraption burst and gravity propelled the turntable back towards Marsing in the US state of Idaho.White, who founded Third Man Records and has performed in bands such as The White Stripes, The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs, was the driving force behind the mission.
