I have written this article in response to a recent article titled Black mark for state’s schools upgrade plan. The National Development Plan (NDP) aims to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality by 2030. According to the plan, SA can realise these goals by drawing on the energies of its people, growing an inclusive economy, building capabilities, enhancing the capacity of the state, and promoting leadership and partnerships throughout society. The paragraph above could be describing the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative. This initiative has drawn on the energy of about 900 small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) to deliver state-of-the-art schools. This is wealth creation in keeping with the goals of an inclusive economy and, in the process, creating the space for the 33,000 project-cycle jobs created to date.
