The Poynter Institute, a nonprofit journalist support and training organisation that operates internationally, compiles an annual list of the "best" media corrections, largely "as an excuse to chuckle" but also in recognition of the honourable practice followed by reputable media organisations of correcting their mistakes promptly and publicly. As opposed to burying them, which only disreputable media organisations and medical practitioners do. Here’s a selection from 2016: • Margaret Ritchie is not the MP for Down South as we suggested.
