Communications Minister Faith Muthambi’s future remains uncertain, as the ad hoc committee looking into the crisis at the SABC resolved to refer her role in the mismanagement of the public broadcaster to Parliament’s ethics committee, for further investigation. The committee agreed on Friday that President Jacob Zuma should "reconsider" Muthambi’s "desirability" in Cabinet. The minister has been sharply criticised for her role in the collapse of the board of the SABC. The majority of Parliament’s ad hoc committee members agreed it would be up to Zuma to make the final call regarding Muthambi’s fitness to hold office. The DA has been pushing hard to have the ad hoc committee’s final report explicitly recommend that Muthambi be removed. The party also wanted the public protector to investigate the minister for allegedly violating the Executive Members’ Ethics Act.
