A former SABC human resources executive has detailed how much power Hlaudi Motsoeneng enjoys at the public broadcaster. Former SABC group human resources executive Jabulani Mabaso told Parliament’s ad hoc committee on the crisis at the corporation that Motsoeneng was de facto CEO and major meetings were held in his office. "At the SABC, the CEO’s office is on the 28th floor, the [chief operating officer] is on the 27th floor … but the meetings are held on the 27th floor," said Mabaso. He said Motsoeneng often undermined the CEO, most notably Lulama Mokhobo. Mabaso said Motsoeneng was not vetted before his appointment as group executive of corporate affairs.
