AFRICA News Network 7 (ANN7) has apologised after censure from the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA for conduct the broadcaster conceded amounted to gross negligence.
ANN7 found itself in hot water after it disclosed the identities of victims of violence in the Glebelands Hostel Community in Durban. At a press conference in April it was requested that the media protect the identities of the community members as exposure would pose a security risk to them. ANN7 aired footage from the conference identifying some of the victims on its television channel and published the same footage on its website. After the Glebelands Hostel Community group complained the broadcaster said the footage would be removed from its website and not be used in future. Soon afterwards‚ however‚ the same footage cropped up in an in-studio interview. ..
