The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) is referring the Road Accident Fund (RAF) to the public protector and Parliament, saying the fund could be "mismanaging" motorists’ personal information. On Monday, the union said it had filed a complaint with the public protector and it expected to write to Parliament on Wednesday requesting that the fund be looked into. The RAF has been technically insolvent since 1981. The DA has indicated it was considering laying criminal charges against some officials amid suspicions that legal syndicates were colluding with RAF officials to rip off the fund. DA deputy transport spokesman Chris Hunsinger said on Monday the party had received many complaints from the public. Numsa represents about 36% of the RAF’s staff.
