Universities and the Department of Higher Education and Training are looking at forging public-private partnerships and devising publicly funded housing developments to deal with growing demand for student accommodation. Universities SA said this might result in the development of new models for the provision of student accommodation. The shortage of accommodation has been identified as one of the key drivers of student protests on campuses. Universities SA said there was a correlation between good student accommodation and academic performance.
