Every educator in the land is‚ by law‚ required to register with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) before they are allowed to set foot in a classroom to teach. Now the very council tasked with ensuring that children are taught by competent professionals is being investigated because top management might not be qualified for their own jobs. Oupa Segalwe‚ senior communications manager for the public protector‚ confirmed that the office was investigating allegations of improper appointments at the council. On Monday, EWN reported that it had "internal audit documents" that indicated that the chief financial officer‚ the chief operations officer and the human resources officer, "were all appointed without the relevant qualifications".
