SCHOOLING in the protest-ravaged Vuwani area in Limpopo was slowly returning to normal, Parliament’s basic education portfolio committee heard on Tuesday.This is despite the fact that the issues behind the protests in the area have not been entirely resolved.Earlier in 2016 Vuwani residents protested against the creation of a new municipality, which will include Malamulele residents. During the violent protests several schools and other public amenities were torched, which disrupted classes.Updating legislators on the situation, Basic Education Department deputy director-general Palesa Tyobeka said teaching and learning had been seriously disrupted from the beginning of May when the protests started. Teaching and learning effectively resumed only in August.She said 52,827 learners had been affected and 42,000 of these could not sit for their mid-year examinations.
