Strained budgets be damned — SA loves snacking, and often before breakfast
The most popular snack is bread and fruit, followed by potato chips, popcorn, pretzels and biscuits in second place

Locals love their snacks so much that they always find money for them, no matter how stretched budgets are, according to a recent report based on a survey in SA and 12 other markets.
Even though South Africans are generally deeply concerned about inflation and complain about rising food prices, eight out of 10 respondents in the survey say there is always some money in their budget for snacks. This is especially true for the so-called generation Z, aged 18-25 years, and millennials, aged 26-41 years. ..
