Deliberations on the Electoral Amendment Bill by parliament’s home affairs committee are almost complete, and the next stage will be consideration of a reworked bill that includes all the amendments its members have decided upon.
The bill was made necessary by a Constitutional Court judgment that found that the Electoral Act was unconstitutional, because it did not provide for independent candidates to stand for national and provincial elections...
