The man accused of setting parliament alight, Zandile Mafe, 49, now faces a more serious charge after the state added a count of contravening the Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorist and Related Activities Act.
Mafe appeared in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Tuesday where his lawyers and the prosecution slugged it out over his mental health. The prosecution said Mafe had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. ..
