On Wednesday, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown was exposed as being at the centre of machinations at Eskom that led to the suspension and ultimate departure of three key executives, and ultimately to the downgrade of Eskom. Former Eskom chairperson Zola Tsotsi also gave evidence at the public inquiry into the state capture of public enterprises — being conducted by Parliament’s public enterprises committee — about the association between Brown and the Guptas. While being questioned, Tsotsi said: "There is a clear association between Minister Brown and the Gupta family." Tsotsi told the committee that shortly after the appointment of the new Eskom board in December 2014, Brown called him to her home. When he went there, two people were present — Tony Gupta and Gupta associate Salim Essa. The question under discussion was board allocations.
