Former Eskom boss Brian Molefe was first appointed as an honorary colonel of the South African Irish Regiment in 2011 and it was therefore strange that his appointment was raising eyebrows only now, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) said on Monday. City Press reported at the weekend that Molefe had been called up to serve as a colonel in the army and had commenced his duties in August on a salary of R57,000 a month. The South African National Defence Union (Sandu) is preparing to file charges challenging Molefe’s appointment in the defence force’s finance unit, labelling it "fraudulent and unlawful". Molefe has been implicated in state capture.
