The two councillors who were shot together with slain former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa have now been given police protection.Magaqa was an ANC councilor in Umzimkhulu local municipality when he died weeks after a gun attack. He and two fellow councillors, Jabulile Mzizi and Nontsikelelo Mafa, were driving from a political meeting in Umzimkhulu town’s Ibisi Village, when their vehicle came under fire from unknown gunmen. All three councilors sustained injuries and were hospitalised. The gunmen fled and were never caught.Mzizi and Mafa recovered and were discharged from hospital on crutches. Magaqa was at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital when he died, apparently after suffering from a stomach bug, two months after the fateful attack.
