ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize is seeking legal advice on allegations linking him to a deal at PetroSA, made in an affidavit by a former board member. William Steenkamp indicated in an affidavit that he was chastised by an adviser to Central Energy Fund chairperson, Luvo Makasi, for favouring a Nigerian company aligned to Mkhize instead of one aligned to President Jacob Zuma for a framework agreement for an offshore gas exploration site. Steenkamp viewed this as part of the reason he was removed from the board and is looking to have his removal set aside. "I am perturbed by these false and unfounded allegations. I also view them as intended to taint the ANC and its leaders’ reputation with allegations that we meddle with procurement processes of state-owned entities and are involved in ‘dirty deals’," Mkhize said in a statement on Friday.
