On Wednesday, deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa denied the existence of a "witch hunt" in the ANC targeting the party’s MPs who voted with the opposition in the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma. Last week, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said the national working committee had decided to discipline at least three MPs who had publicly said they would vote against Zuma. This was after the president said the MPs had "broken the constitutional laws of the ANC". "As far as I am concerned, there is no witch hunt in the ANC. The ANC has accepted that the vote has happened and clearly, like any other party, it has its own internal processes which must be respected, just as we respect the internal processes of other parties," Ramaphosa said during a question and answer session in Parliament.
