Acting crime intelligence head Maj-Gen Pat Mokushane has been axed following a tumultuous time in this position. Acting police commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba announced in a letter sent to the Hawks head and all the police top brass that Mokushane’s acting appointment had been terminated with immediate effect. Mokushane had been in the position since June 10, after he took over from another acting head, Maj-Gen Agnes Makhele. Crime intelligence has not had a permanent head since Lt-Gen Richard Mdluli was arrested for the 1999 murder of his former girlfriend’s husband, Oupa Ramogibe, and subsequently suspended six years ago. He remains suspended. The dismissal letter signed by Mothiba, and seen by the Business Day, said Mothiba would oversee the functions of the crime intelligence unit until further notice.
