Herman Mashaba vows to end ‘suffering’ in billing crisis
The Joburg mayor has made it his personal mission to ensure billing queries are resolved and unfair charges to residents are reversed
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba has taken personal charge of the city’s billing crisis and vowed to alleviate the suffering residents have had to endure.He said on Monday that when he had been elected mayor, he had promised residents they would get his administration’s "very best to relieve them of the misery they have endured at the hands of our billing system"."Unfortunately‚ to date‚ they have not received this‚" Mashaba lamented. He said the city had inherited a billing system where levels of corruption and mismanagement had historically flourished in an environment of chaos and disorder. "For years‚ the system has failed our residents and treated them with contempt. "Today I report to the residents of our city that I have put the entire leadership of the department on terms.
