The DA is pushing for Parliament to adequately resource its inquiry into state-owned enterprises by employing an experienced advocate as evidence leader. DA chief whip John Steenhuisen expressed concern on Thursday that the inquiry — which kicks off next month — will be strangled if Parliament does not ensure it has the resources it needs. The public enterprises committee, which is spearheading the inquiry, has been informed that parliamentary advocate Nthuthuzelo Vanara, who was the evidence leader for the SABC ad hoc committee, will not be available for the latest inquiry due to his current workload as the registrar of members’ interests. "Limiting the resources of these committees aligns directly with the agenda of the ANC — make it look like action is being taken but prevent that action from ever actually getting to the heart of the problem," Steenhuisen said.
