The issue of radical economic transformation cannot be tackled if the state is captured and corruption is allowed to fester, Gauteng premier David Makhura said on Tuesday. Makhura was addressing the South African Communist Party’s (SACP) 14th national congress in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, where state capture is expected to be one of the main themes discussed. "[The] real danger is the immediate threat that corruption and state capture can derail our revolution. If our state is captured and if corruption is allowed to fester we will have no state to do what is supposed to be done," he told delegates. Makhura, who is also ANC deputy chairman in Gauteng, praised the SACP for speaking out against corporate capture and corruption, and providing leadership on the matter.
