Zuma appalled by rape and murder of three year old
The president is not only disgusted by the crime but by the way it was handled by police at Elsie’s River, who ‘treated the mother as the perpetrator’
Standing on Courtney Pieters’s doorstep on Thursday‚ President Jacob Zuma slammed police for their handling of the murdered three-year-old’s disappearance near Cape Town. "When the police were asked to come and help‚ they actually almost treated the mother as the perpetrator instead of helping to look for the child‚" said Zuma. Had they come to the Elsie’s River house in the first place‚ they could have searched it. "They could have found the body; they could have found the blood ... [but] they did not react as if this was a serious matter‚" Zuma said after visiting the family. He said he would ask Police Minister Fikile Mbalula to address the problem. Mbalula was due to attend a memorial service for Courtney at Elsie’s River Civic Centre last night. Zuma unveiled a plaque dedicated to Courtney on the wall of her family’s two-storey home.
