A South African passport gives holders visa-less access to 98 countries, making it the 55th most hassle-free travel document, according to a ranking by global residence and citizenship consultants Henley & Partners. Germany has the most convenient passport, guaranteeing entry to 176 countries, followed by Sweden, on 175; Denmark, Finland, Italy, Spain and the US on 174; and Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore and the UK on 173. Perhaps not surprisingly, passports propping up the free-movement table are trouble hotspots in the Middle East and Asia. Bottom of the pile is Afghanistan, whose passport gains visa-free entry to 24 countries, followed by Iraq 27, Pakistan 28, Syria 29 and Somalia 30.
