The situation over arrangements for the payment of social grants had become so "intolerable" that he was forced to resign, Department of Social Development former director-general Zane Dangor said Monday. Dangor had worked closely with Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini as her special adviser for more than five years before being appointed as director general of the department in November last year. He threw in the towel on Friday. He would not detail the circumstances surrounding his departure but clarified that he definitely was not fired. "I don’t want to enter a mud-slinging match," Dangor said in an interview. He said he had been without sleep for two days and had just visited a doctor.
