President Jacob Zuma has expressed confidence in Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to ensure social grants are paid to beneficiaries on April 1. His was addressing the National House of Traditional Leaders on Friday. The Congress of South African Trade Unions had called for Dlamini either to resign or be dismissed for her failure to devise a plan for the takeover of social grants by the Social Security Agency of SA (Sassa) when the unlawful contract with Net1 subsidiary Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) expires on March 31. The department and Sassa have had three years to find an alternative payment system and have now been forced to open negotiations with CPS over the extension of the contract.
