The Western Cape town of Atlantis has received a major investment boost following the decision by the Czech company Pegas Nonwovens to build a R1.3bn manufacturing facility in the area. Pegas is a major global player in nonwoven fabrics manufacturing. The investment in Atlantis, about 40km north of the Cape Town city centre, will create about 200 employment opportunities for local residents, who will be trained and educated in the Czech Republic. Atlantis has lost thousands of jobs in the past decade, as clothing factories closed and the 2008-09 global economic crises took its toll on other businesses in the area.
