Parliament’s ad hoc committee looking into the crisis at the SABC wants the public broadcaster’s executives to account for the "reckless" decisions they continue to make, while MPs probed the mess at the corporation. At issue is the controversial decision by the SABC to appeal against an order by the High Court in Cape Town that Hlaudi Motsoeneng should not occupy any position at the broadcaster. The SABC decided to appeal the ruling even though there was no board in place. Last week, the high court dismissed the appeal with costs. MPs are also concerned about reports that SABC executives signed dodgy deals in December at about the time the ad hoc committee was investigating management failures at the public broadcaster. According to reports, just days before Christmas,, the SABC top brass authorised an upfront payment to a firm with which it was not allowed to do business with — violating the Treasury and the corporation’s own procurement rules.
