No word from the White House on the new ambassador to SA
Two alt-right names are being bandied about, but SA will have to wait a while longer to find out who Trump is sending to Pretoria
The US Embassy in SA is waiting to learn who US President Donald Trump will appoint as the country’s ambassador to replace outgoing ambassador Patrick Gaspard. South African-born American author Joel Pollak has been touted as Trump’s next pick, while alt-right social-media firebrand Mike Cernovich has also been mentioned as a potential successor. No official indication has been given as to whether Pollak or Cernovich stand a real chance of ascending to the embassy. Pollak currently works as editor-a-large at alt-right news website Breitbart News and has written speeches for former Democratic Party leader Tony Leon. He is also said to be a close family friend of Western Cape Premier and former DA leader Helen Zille.
