A special council meeting where a motion of no confidence had been expected to be brought against Metsimaholo local municipality mayor, Sello Hlasa, has been postponed. The DA in the Free State confirmed this on Monday. The meeting was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, a day before a by-election was to be held in the municipality. Metsimaholo was finely split between political parties after the August 2016 local government elections, and was eventually run by an opposition coalition. Hlasa, who is leader of the Metsimaholo Community Association, was elected mayor. However, he is alleged to have aligned himself subsequently with the ANC in the province, forcing the DA and EFF to rethink their support in the municipality.
