South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar‚ who fled his country amid a civil war‚ is not under house arrest in SA, the Department of International Relations and Co-operation said on Wednesday. Department spokesman Nelson Kgwete said the government had announced Machar’s arrival in the country on October 13, and he had been in the country since then. "Dr Riek Machar is still in SA and the South African government is taking care of him‚ given his profile." Kgwete said: "SA reiterates her commitment to work with the government and people of South Sudan in search of peace‚ stability and development."
