In a fightback against allegations of corruption‚ acting national police commissioner Lt-Gen Khomotso Phahlane has come out with guns blazing. Phahlane on Thursday released an independent forensic audit report on allegations of corruption levelled against him while he headed the South African Police Service Forensics Division. The allegations are central to an investigation into him by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid). The directorate is investigating Phahlane for defeating the ends of justice. He is alleged to have told witnesses not to speak out on investigations into corruption within the forensic division. He is also alleged to have received millions of rand in kickbacks for awarding a tender to provide services to the forensic division.
