From the local government elections‚ to the black hair in schools saga and countrywide student protests‚ here is a countdown of 10 news highlights of 2016 through the eyes of social media. 1. Pretoria High School for Girls hair saga Pupils at Pretoria High School for Girls protested against what they called prolonged racism at the school. They challenged the school’s management and Gauteng Education MEC Panyasa Lesufi to deal with various allegations, including teachers insisting pupils neaten their black hair, and that they speak English during private conversations. 2. Fees Must Fall protests Universities around the country were closed during protests by students for free higher education.
